Bats are the only mammals that really fly.
As mammals, they are warm blooded, have fur, give live birth, and make milk for their babies.

Bats
Bats are not the dirty, nasty creatures of the night that they are made out to be. They do not attack people and will only bite when they are threatened. They are not really blind, bats can see, however it is not a very important sense for them because they mostly fly at night. Bats use an acoustic orientation called echolocation, They emit a series of supersonic cries through the mouth or nose and detect
flying insects by the echoes reflected back. Bats also emit other sounds possibly to communicate or to indicate emotion.
Purrs, clicks, and buzzing often precede mating of some species; some of these
sounds may be ultrasonic.
Bats help to control the population of night-flying insects, in some instances pollinate flowers, and scatter the seeds of plants. A single bat will eat over 3,000 mosquitoes and flying insects per night.
Bats don't really have that many natural predators. People do the most damage to the local bat population by destroying their nests. By placing a bat box in your yard, you are giving the bats a place to nest and controlling your mosquito and flying insect population. Place the box near food sources, over a garden, near water or tree lines. Bats can find a bat box sometimes within hours of their placement, however it takes some time before they are regularly used.
If your box remains unoccupied for more than two years try moving it to another part of your property. Bat houses can be purchased or if you woodworking you can build your own. They can be mounted on trees, chimneys or stilts like in the photograph above.
